retailers down 1.0% versus the prior week but up 2.0% versus the comparable
period a year ago; Redbook Research reported month to date retail chain store
sales down 0.5% versus the similar timeframe last month but up 1.6% on a year
over year basis.
The
November Case Shiller home price index
rose 0.6% versus expectations of a 0.7% increase.
The Conference Board’s
January index of consumer confidence came in at 58.6 versus estimates of 65.1.
Weekly mortgage
applications fell 8.1% while purchase applications dropped 2.0%.
The initial
fourth quarter GDP report came in at -0.6%
versus consensus of +1.0%.
