            The International Council of Shopping Centers reported weekly sales of major retailers fell 2.6% versus the prior week but rose 3.0% on a year over year basis; Redbook Research reported month to date retail chain store sales up 0.4% versus last week and up 3.6% versus the comparable period a year ago.

            Weekly mortgage applications rose 7.9% while purchase applications were up 5.0%

            August CPI was -0.2% versus expectations of being flat; ex food and energy, the number was flat versus estimates of +0.2%.

            The second quarter trade deficit was $98.5 billion versus forecasts of $114.0 billion.
